Viridor Expand

Viridor, currently based in Taunton, has just closed a deal to buy out the Manchester based paper recycling company Waste Management Ltd.

Situated in the Trafford Park area, Waste Management Ltd served companies in the Greater Manchester region and North of England and has an annual turnover of £4 million. Viridor however, would not reveal how much the acquisition cost.

The business comprises of a baling and paper sorting facility and employed 22 staff who will now be joining the Viridor team. The company will continue with the operation of the 3,000 tonne per day capacity facility.

This acquisition greatly expands Viridors Empire, and current existence in the North West. They signed a £3.8 billion PFI contract in April with the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority, along with equity investors Laing.

The northern regional director of Viridor Mark Burrows Smith said “The acquisition of this quality paper collection and recycling business will be an excellent addition to our existing operations in the north. There are obvious synergies with our services in Greater Manchester.

“He also added “We welcome our new colleagues and look forward to delivering these essential recycling services to new and existing customers across the region”.

Viridor also acquired the Skelmersdale based plastic recycling company Intercontinental Recycling  in July. The purchase cost them £8.1 million.
