This Waste Is Electric!

A new Scotgen facility is due to open this month in Dumfries. The facility, the first of its kind in Scotland, will convert waste into electricity and is licensed to take 60,000 tonnes of both non-hazardous and hazardous waste.

Energy from the £20million plant will produce 6.2MW power which will be connected to the National Grid and eventually the facility will supply energy to about 12,000 homes.

Scotgen have also planned for the residual ash the plant will produce as this will be suitable for re-use and recycling.

The factory will be opened by Scottish Government minister Mike Russell and will create 20 new jobs.
