Glastonbury Festival Provides WEEE Recycling Facilities

This year, the countries most renowned outdoor festival has gone one step further in its quest to remain an environmentally friendly organisation and provide collection points for waste electrical equipment and used batteries.

Glastonbury has always made a conscious effort in its preservation of the environment. Composting toilets were introduced, accommodation facilities in the locality use only fair-trade and organic goods. The festival has recently introduced eco-friendly tent pegs. They are developed from wheat and potato, and naturally rot after 3 or 4 months.

It is anticipated that this facility will mainly be of use to the festival organisers and band’s, however it is a facility they provide to all. A collection point providing safe storage for the items will be provided by the waste management company Midex.

After the festival, the collected goods will be safely transported to a WEEE processing unit where they will be shredded to comply with the Environment Agency requirements.
Good on you Glastonbury! Let’s hope other music festivals will jump on the band wagon.
